Why not come on one of our bread making courses? You can come as an individual to learn about great bread-making, or we also provide training for corporate groups.
Learn how to make your own Sourdough (Organic) bread.
This one day course is designed for beginners or those with some experience who want to improve and learn about natural leavens and long fermentation processes. Join us for a great day where you will:
- learn about traditional bread making techniques - balancing ingredients, yeast and bacterial development, temperature, kneading and dough care to make the perfect loaf
- understand how to use yeast with the overnight 'biga' process, and how to cultivate wild yeast or sourdough cultures
- make a variety of bread and take it home
- get full notes and home-baking recipes
- take away a live sourdough culture It's a great day out and tremendous fun, as well as arming you with a good understanding of what makes good bread, so that you can experiment for yourself.
Payment Terms:
Full payment must be received at least 2 weeks before the start of a course. If you are booking more than 2 weeks ahead, a non-refundable deposit of 25% of the course cost may be paid to secure a place. The balance must be paid no less than 2 weeks before the course.
Cancellation:
If you have paid in full and have to cancel your booking, we will refund 75% of the total paid, provided you tell us at least 1 week before the course date. Prepaid deposits are not refundable.
Courses include lunch, all materials and ingredients. One day courses for 2011 cost R1, 600.00 (incl. VAT) per person and there is a sliding scale for "apprentices" who come for several weeks in a row. Two days and more R1500.00 per day per person.
Wood-fired Oven Workshops are becoming increasingly popular, which reflects the growing interest in masonry ovens shown by amateur household bakers as well as commercial bakers. Plans are foresale from www.ovencrafters.net.
We do not sell oven plans.
There is no masonry better than the Alan Scott masonry wood-fired oven, for which La Baguette Bread & Café is popular for. Along with the themed wood-firing courses, the use of the wood-fired oven can be requested on any two-day course.
Accommodation is not included, however
we have made a deal with one of our customers that have a very nice guest-house with reasonable rates for La Baguette future sourdough bakers.The guest-house (RiverView Lodge) have a view over the river and mountains.Please mention La Baguette for the special rate (5min from bakery)
